Restoring the Gilbert Greenall chairs
The Gilbert Greenall Chairs consist of a an extended set of lodge officer’s chairs including three principal officers chairs, two deacons chairs, an inner guard’s chair and a kneeling stool.
These chairs have performed a magnificent service for over 100 years, but now, probably due to central heating, the glue holding the chair joints has become brittle and the joints loose. It was essential that remedial work was carried out, not only to protect the chairs, but also to protect the persons using them.
Currently the two deacons chairs have been stripped of their cushions, repaired and rebuilt using traditional animal (pearl) glue. The Inner guard’s seat is the next to be tackled. When all the seats are rebuilt they will go to Bramhall Interior design for reupholstering
