Warrington Freemasons Who Returned From WW1

Following on from the Warrington Freemasons Lost in WW1 project, the Museum Archivist, Mrs Caroline Crook, delved once again into the records to discover the Warrington Freemasons who served and returned home.  The following are all Warrington Freemasons who served during WW1 listed by Lodge, including the two who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Initiated into Gilbert Greenall 18 March 1900, Made Master of Charity in 1905 whilst on leave from the Front.

Airman, lived in Warrington, Single.

Initiated into Lodge of Charity 6 June 1918.

Served 1915 – 1918 Royal Flying Corps, then Royal Airforce.

Regimental Sergeant Major Alfred Lees D.C.M (1869 – 1938)

Soldier, lived in Warrington, married two children.

Initiated into Lodge of Charity 19 May 1908.

Joined, The Kings Liverpool Regiment in 1888, gave three months’ notice and left in 1911 re-joined in 1914, discharged October 1918 no longer fit for service.

Boer War.

Served 1915 – 1917 Served in Royal Anglesey Royal Engineers, then Royal Engineers Railway Department, Discharged, no longer fit for service October 1918.

Captain Edwin Kerfoot (1868 – 1920)

A member of the regular army, worked as a recruiting officer and head of the catering school, Manchester Regiment School of Cookery. Lived in Leigh, married no children.

Initiated into Lodge of Lights 31 March 1897, also member of Aldershot Camp Lodge No 1331.

Served 1914 – 1920, Catering Instructor, died in service of a chill.
